When the on-field proceedings were wrapped up, a dejected Garnacho was spotted sitting on the sidelines, after having prematurely celebrated early on when United took the lead 3-2.

Manchester United endured their third defeat in the Champions League at the hands of FC Copenhagen on Thursday. It was a chaotic affair at the Danish capital, with Copenhagen having the last laugh in the contest after a couple of late goals. The match saw a major turnaround of fortunes in the second half when Manchester United were having a 3-2 lead. After Bruno Fernandes netted the third for the Red Devils, Alejandro Garnacho burst into an emphatic celebration.

While making a roaring run alongside Fernandes, Garnacho put his finger on the lips, asking the Copenhagen fans to turn quiet. The atmosphere at the venue changed following the final whistle as the hosts scripted a stunning comeback to pick up a 4-3 victory. When the on-field proceedings were wrapped up, a dejected Garnacho was spotted sitting on the sidelines. Some coaching staff from the Manchester United camp came forward to console the 19-year-old Argentinian.

Football fans were quick to underline Manchester United’s lack of composure in the dying phases of the game. Referring to FC Copenhagen’s appreciable comeback, some fans highlighted an unsaid rule – “Never celebrate too early.”

It was a must-win fixture for Manchester United to keep their hopes alive for the knockout stage. The team made a positive start to the outing, knocking at the door of Copenhagen’s defence several times during the early phase of the game. The breakthrough finally came in the ninth minute when Rasmus Hojlund broke the deadlock. The Danish forward increased the lead for the visitors in the 28th minute.

After conceding two early goals, Copenhagen changed their style of play, sending more players into the attacking third. Deep into the first-half stoppage time, Mohamed Elyounoussi and Diogo Goncalves netted back-to-back goals for the hosts, bringing them back to the contest. What made the situation worse for Manchester United was the red card for forward Marcus Rashford just ahead of the first-half whistle.

Bruno Fernandes could give Manchester United a lead by converting a penalty in the 69th minute. Copenhagen, however, were in no mood to give up. They scored two goals after 80 minutes, with Lukas Lerager and Roony Bardghji striking the net. Following the heartbreaking loss, Manchester United are reeling at the bottom of Group A with one point in four games.
