In a display of sensational fast-bowling, Lucknow pacer Mayank Yadav shattered his own record by bowling the fastest ball of IPL 2024 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He singled out the dismissal of Australia all-rounder Cameron Green as the special one since he had cleaned him up. Yadav picked up three wickets while leaking just 14 runs in his four overs to guide Lucknow to a comfortable 28-run win over Bengaluru. During the game, Yadav clocked in at 156.7 km/h to register the fastest ball of the season.

Speaking in a video released by IPL’s social media handle on ‘X’, Yadav said Green’s wicket was special for him since he likes cleaning up batters. Yadav dismissed Glenn Maxwell, Green and Rajat Patidar to run through RCB’s middle order in Bengaluru. The 21-year-old has made a dream start in IPL 2024, winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award in both games that he’s played this season.

“Green’s wicket was special because I personally like just like one kind of wicket, which is bowling people out, like any fast bowler. That over was a bit aggressive because I’d picked a wicket in the previous over. The captain also told me to attack a bit and use the bouncer with my pace,” said Yadav.

He went on to say that LSG head coach Andy Flower helped him a lot when he was under pressure in the last two years, while adding he only trains to get quicker and stronger. Yadav has claimed six wickets in two matches this season, as sits in second place for the race for the Purple Cap.

“Andy has supported me a lot in the last two years. I was under a lot of pressure in the first year, so he calmed me down a bit by teaching me things. So, Andy has helped me a lot,” said Yadav.

“No extra training, I just do things that make me quicker and stronger. This was the first time I played on this ground. I’d heard that 180 is easily chasable on this ground but our plan was to keep bowling at the stumps and not give the batters any room,” Yadav added.

Following their win over RCB, Lucknow will turn their focus towards last year’s finalists Gujarat Titans, with the two sides set to clash on Sunday, April 7.
