England leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed showed his desire to get India’s star batter, Virat Kohli’s wicket during the ongoing 5-match Test series between India and England.
The England team jetted off to Abu Dhabi to spend quality time with their families ahead of the 3rd Test match that will begin on February 15 in Rajkot. The BCCI is yet to announce India’s squad for the remaining Tests as there are clouds over Kohli’s participation in the series. The 35-year-old Kohli had opted out of the first 2 Test matches, citing personal reasons.
“It’ll be good. I think it will be another challenge. He is an unbelievable player. The record speaks for itself. It’ll be nice to have Virat Kohli out as well. Give me an opportunity to do that; hopefully, I do,” Rehan said in an interview to talkSPORT cricket.
In Kohli’s absence, youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill stepped up in the 2nd Test match in Vizag. Jaiswal played a scintillating knock of 209 runs in the 1st innings, while Gill helped India set a massive target of 399 by notching up his 3rd Test ton. Rehan appreciated Jaiswal for his batting style and hoped to stop the batter from scoring more runs against England.
“Jaiswal is a great player. I really like the way he plays. Hopefully, he doesn’t get any runs against us, but you have to respect he played very well, and so did Shubman.”
The 19-year-old Rehan has scalped 15 wickets in the 3 Tests so far, with 6 of those coming in the Vizag Test. He praised skipper Ben Stokes for the way he has looked after the spin-bowling department and always motivated them to take wicket on every ball.
“Even Stokes, the way he looks after us (spin-bowling group) and the way he talks to us, just about trying to get a wicket every ball and always looking for the next ball, is great,” Rehan added.
“When people treat you so well, you want to do as well as you can for them. That’s the thing with his dressing room. They’ve treated me so well; they’ve looked after all of us.”
