24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz were named in a star-studded entry list for the much-anticipated Indian Wells Masters, scheduled to get underway from March 6 to 17 in California.

Novak Djokovic is all set to return to Indian Wells, a tournament that he has won 6 times in his career, for the first time since 2019. Djokovic missed the previous editions of the tournament as he was denied entry into the United States due to vaccine restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal, who missed last year’s edition of the Indian Wells Masters due to injury, is expected to be in action on the hard courts of California. Nadal missed this year’s Australian Open due to a a muscle issue in his hip, days after returning to action from a lengthy lay-off at Brisbane International. The Spaniard is expected to return to action at an ATP 250 tournament in Doha, starting February 19.

Novak Djokovic will be keen on winning the Sunshine Double, Indian Wells and Miami, again after having missed the opportunity to compete in the prestigious tournaments for the last 4 years. Djokovic will be keen on laying down a marker after having lost to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semi-final. Sinner went on to win the men’s singles crown at the season’s first Grand Slam tournament.

SINNER AND SABALENKA IN FOCUS

All eyes on Indian Wells will be on Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, the singles champions of Australian Open. Sinner reached the semi-final of the Indian Wells last year, losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcaraz. Sabalenka, on the other hand, will be looking to win the Indian Wells title for the first time after failing in the final hurdle last year.

Other top names to watch will include six-time Grand Slam finalist and 2023 BNP Paribas Open runner-up Daniil Medvedev, as well others in the ATP Top 10, including Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev, Holger Rune, Hubert Hurkacz and two-time Grand Slam finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. Three-time Slam winner and two-time Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray will also make his 16th appearance at the Indian Wells Masters.
