IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell to get dropped by RCB? Aakash Chopra makes bold prediction

Glenn Maxwell

Former India batter Aakash Chopra has predicted that Bengaluru’s star all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, might not be a part of their squad in their upcoming Indian Premier League(IPL) 2024 clash against Rajasthan on April 6, due to his bad form with the bat. The explosive Australia all-rounder has been out of form since the beginning of this season, which has been pointed out by many as one of the main reasons behind Bengaluru’s bad form this season so far. In his four innings with the bat in IPL 2024, Maxwell has only managed 31 runs, which has cast a shadow of doubt on his involvement in his side’s upcoming clash.

Since joining the Bengaluru franchise during the IPL 2022 auction, Maxwell has become one of the crowd favourites at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, the batter has failed to showcase his usual explosiveness in this season of the tournament. He was dismissed for a duck in their season opener against Chennai, followed by a 3(5) innings against Punjab. Maxwell’s only noteworthy knock came against Kolkata, where he scored 28 off 19 balls. Much to the disappointment of himself and Bengaluru fans, he was dismissed for yet another duck in the franchise’s most recent clash against Lucknow on April 2.

In his recent YouTube video, Aakash Chopra explained how Maxwell’s bad form can make way for Bengaluru’s English signing Will Jacks.

“I feel Will Jacks is about to play. It’s a matter of one more game if they go that far as well. (Glenn) Maxwell might be dropped first and then the captain (Faf du Plessis) might come under pressure. The pressure will come on the captain because Will Jacks is an opener. I feel that’s going to happen. Let’s see when Will Jacks gets a chance to play,” Chopra said.

Jacks was a pivotal part of the England squad featuring in the U-19 World Cup in 2022, and was one of the highly anticipated names during the IPL 2024 auction where he was roped in by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for Rs 3.2 crore. The 25-year-old is yet to make his IPL debut, with many hailing him to feature in the RCB squad against Rajasthan Royals on April 6.

“I had probably said this before the tournament as well that you should somehow keep Will Jacks in the XI because he is coming with incredible form,”He is in red-hot form, so he shouldn’t be kept out. He bats and bowls off-spin,” Chopra added.
