Rajasthan all-rounder Riyan Parag was the star for the home side as they defeated Delhi by 12 runs at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday, March 28. Parag played a match-winning knock against Delhi and revealed that he was sick before the game and had to take painkillers to come out on the field. Parag smashed an unbeaten 45-ball 84 to help the 2008 champions extend their winning run in the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Parag, who was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his brilliant batting performance revealed that he was sick before the game and had to take painkillers to play against Delhi. Parag has made an amazing start in IPL 2024 and is benefitting from a set role within Rajasthan’s side, where he comes in to bat at number 4. On Thursday, Parag scored 84 off 45 balls, hitting seven boundaries and six maximums.

“I’ve had to work very hard for the last three days. I was in bed, I was sick and I just got up today with painkillers, etc. and I could still manage today. So I’m really happy for myself,” said Parag.

He went on to credit his form in the domestic circuit for his brilliant start to IPL 2024. Parag smashed his third fifty in the IPL, which also happened to be his highest individual score in the tournament, This knock him into the top-two run-scorers in IPL 2024. He only trails Heinrich Klaasen of Hyderabad (143 runs) in the race for the Orange Cap.

“I know what my opinion is about myself, and no matter what anyone says I don’t let that change. And that has never changed. Regardless of whether I’m performing or not, even if I got a zero today, that opinion was never going to change. I think that has a lot to do with the type of season I’ve had as well. I think you get a lot of confidence from getting runs in the domestic season,” Parag added.
