IPL 2024: Sunil Narine happy with Vizag blitz in front of 'big boss' Shah Rukh Khan

Kolkata all-rounder Sunil Narine opened up on his blistering knock against Delhi, saying it was good to do it in front of the big boss Shah Rukh Khan. Narine registered his highest T20 score as Kolkata hammered Delhi by 106 runs at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Vizag. His knocked also helped Kolkata post the all-time second-highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League. Narine smashed 85 runs off 39 deliveries, bettering his previous best of 79, which came against Barbados Tridents in the CPL in 2017.

Speaking in a video released by the IPL on social media platform ‘X’, Narine told fellow West Indian and teammate Andre Russell that it was good to post his highest individual score in T20s in front of Shah Rukh Khan. Narine smashed seven boundaries and as many sixes as Kolkata posted their second-highest powerplay score in the IPL. Their highest powerplay score in the competition came in 2016, when they smashed 105 runs against Bengaluru.

“I think it was tough to start off. They were getting a lot of swing and there weren’t many boundaries coming. But once you make contact with a few balls, then everything becomes a bit easier. There are those days when everything clicks and it’s good to do it in front of the big boss,” said Narine.

Speaking about young batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Narine said he’s been showing his talent in the nets, insisting that the 18-year-old keeps going from strength to strength. Raghuvanshi became the second-youngest player to score an IPL half-century for KKR. Only Shubman Gill (18 years and 237 days) was younger than Raghuvanshi when he scored a fifty for KKR.

“The young guy, Angkrish, has been showing us his talent and what he can do in the nets. He works hard and bats long. He keeps going from strength to strength,” Narine added.

Following their comfortable win over Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Chennai Super Kings in their next match in IPL 2024, with the two sides set to clash at the Chepauk Stadium on Monday, April 8.
