T20 cricket can be brutal: Starc thrilled after turnaround in form in KKR’s win vs DC

Mitchell Starc

KKR’s big-bucks man, Mitchell Starc, announced his arrival in IPL 2024 during their match against DC in Vizag on April 3, Wednesday, as he took 2 wickets. Starc admitted that T20 cricket could be brutal and luck mattered in the game. KKR registered their 3rd consecutive time on the trot for the first time in the cash-rich league. The Shreyas Iyer-led team thrashed DC by 106 runs to top the IPL 2024 points table with a healthy net-run-rate.

Starc said that he didn’t change a lot of things after going wicketless in the first 2 matches. He also mentioned that there was no pressure of performing just because of the price tag and pointed out luck being a crucial factor.

“Not changing too much. In T20s, you get some dropped chances and some edges, and they don’t go your way. But we are 3-0 and that’s what it is all about. (Biggest price tag. Struggled with wickets early on) Nothing really like I said before. Games come thick and fast. It is T20 cricket, it can get brutal. You take a bit of luck here and there,” Starc said in the post-match press conference. | DC vs KKR Highlights | Scorecard |

Starc, who was roped in for a whopping price of Rs 24.75 crore in the auction, was slammed for 53 and 47 runs against SRH and RCB respectively, without taking a single wicket. However, he was not intimidated by the price tag or pressure to deliver as he picked up the wickets of his Australian teammates, Mitchell Marsh and David Warner, who represented DC.

Starc expressed his happiness about getting his Australian teammates and, more than his personal success, the speedster was happy with the overall team’s performance. Starc was hit for 11 runs in his first over, but made a strong comeback in the next over by dismissing Marsh for a duck. He got his other compatriot, Warner, in his next over, who was bowled for 18 runs.

“We are 3-0, been clinical with the bat, so personal things aside, the team is going fantastic. Nice to have Marsh and Warner in the pocket,” Starc added.

The veteran pacer praised Vaibhav Arora for his exceptional bowling as he took 3 wickets against DC.

“Another way win. (Vaibhav Arora and the short ball) That is all him. He was fantastic, using the short ball really well. We talk more in training and in bowling meetings. Just talking about that side of things. They may have questions, we have little conversations, certainly not me telling them what to do.”

Vaibhav and Varun Chkravarthy were the pick among the bowlers as they picked 3 wickets each to guide KKR to an emphatic win.
