Pakistan fell to a heartbreaking loss against Australia in the U19 World Cup in 2024. Playing in the semi-final of the tournament on Thursday, 8 February, Pakistan gave it a proper fight despite scoring 179 runs in the first innings of the match. Australia, chasing a small target, fell like a pack of cards and were reduced to 164 for 9.
However, a final wicket partnership between Rafael Macmillan and Callum Vilder pulled off an incredible chase remaining patient throughout their 19 balls in the crease. The duo blocked out tough balls and ironically, inside edged a ball to the boundary to win the game in the final over of the match.

Pakistan’s premier fast bowler Ubaid Shah – younger brother of Naseem – gave the ball a chase at fine leg, put in a dive but was not able to stop the ball.
The players were left in tears after the ball touched the boundary line. The team had fought hard and produced spirited spells of bowling but were not able to go over the line in a tense contest. Pakistan were guilty of fielding poorly in the second innings and of course of scoring below-par runs.
Former Pakistan cricketer and director of the men’s team Mohammad Hafeez took to Twitter to express his thoughts and asked the young side to keep their chins up after the tough loss.
“Once a wise man said Cricket always ends with tearful eyes,” a fan wrote on Twitter.
All is not lost for Pakistan as the team has found some terrific bowlers in the tournament, the likes of Ubaid Shah, Mohammad Zeeshan and especially 15-year-old Ali Raza lit up the tournament.
On the other hand, Australia will now go into the final of the tournament after a nervy win against Pakistan and will be facing India on February 11, Sunday.
